Understand the impact of early European exploration on the settlement of North America.

Learner Objectives
The learner will…
explore the motivations that led to exploration (e.g. intrinsic, extrinsic, land, money, fame, religion, etc.)
examine and create maps illustrating European exploration including essential map elements
locate specific areas of exploration using latitude and longitude
describe the effect the Northwest Passage had on exploration
investigate explorers from a variety of countries (i.e. Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands) and their impact on the settlement of North America
compare and contrast the interactions of Native Americans with European explorers
examine the impact that European exploration had on cultures around the world (e.g. the Columbian Exchange, slave trade, new diets, etc)
